Dr Karin Viergever
|
Remote Sensing Specialist
Karin started working with remote sensing (RS) eight years ago when she enrolled for a Masters degree in RS and GIS at Wageningen University, The Netherlands. She has since worked on two European Space Agency DUE projects while working for Synoptics RS & GIS Applications in The Netherlands, both focused on environmental monitoring. Whilst this work was based mainly on optical RS data, Karin’s PhD research at the School of Geosciences at The University of Edinburgh focused on the use of radar RS data. Her research evaluated the use of Synthetic Aperture Radar backscatter and interferometry for estimating the above ground biomass of savanna woodlands. Karin has extensive experience in gathering field data for RS projects. Before joining Ecometrica, she was employed on a NERC and FC-funded project that linked the UK Forestry Commission to UK-wide research on the use of RS for forestry.
