Ecometrica has partnered up with the Green Schools Alliance and is sponsoring the Green Cup Challenge 2009 to help build awareness about climate change and support efforts in sustainability.

The Green Cup Challenge is a national student-driven Climate Challenge, initiated by the Green Schools Alliance in 2006, that encourages emissions reductions during the month of February in day, boarding, private, public, and independent schools. The Challenge, which runs from January 26th to February 23rd of this year, focuses on reducing emissions associated with electricity usage and school heating, and it also supports the efforts of teachers and students in incorporating green initiatives into their school curriculum.

Ecometrica is supporting the efforts of students and schools involved in this green initiative by offering a full, professional greenhouse gas assessment to a chosen school from each of the three Green Cup Challenge divisions. A representative school from each division will be chosen by the coordinators of the Green Cup Challenge on the basis of returning participation, continued and creative emissions reductions efforts, and an essay explaining how the school embodies the values and spirit of the Green Cup Challenge. Chosen schools will be awarded a complete greenhouse gas assessment, courtesy of Ecometrica.

The results of the assessment will help to identify areas of high emissions in the operations of the schools, and support the development of creative and cost effective emissions reductions strategies.
